Solar seal 1

Red Dragon

Nurtures being · power of birth

Power: Birth
Action: Nurtures
Essence: Being
Clan: Fire
Family: Cardinal

The Red Dragon is the first of the twenty solar seals in the Dreamspell and 13 Moon calendar. It holds the power of Birth, the action of Nurtures and the essence of Being. As the opening seal, the Red Dragon is the primal mother of the count: the source waters, the first breath of creation, and the deep trust that you belong here simply because you exist.

The gifts of the Red Dragon

The medicine of the Red Dragon is nourishment at the root. Dragon energy knows how to hold, feed and protect what is new, whether that is a child, a project or a tender idea that has only just arrived. People who carry this seal often have a strong, ancestral presence, an instinct for what is essential, and a gift for making others feel safe enough to begin. The Dragon reminds you that being comes before doing, and that you are worthy of care before you have accomplished anything at all.

Shadow and growth

The shadow side of the Dragon shows up when nurturing turns into control or when the need to be cared for goes unmet. You may give endlessly and then feel quietly resentful, or swing the other way and refuse support because receiving feels unsafe. Old family patterns can be loud for Dragon kin. The challenge is to trust that the universe will meet your needs, to let others mother you sometimes, and to release the belief that everything new will fall apart without your constant attention.

Living with Red Dragon energy

On Red Dragon kin days, which open each new twenty-day round of the seals, return to the basics. Eat something warm and slow, drink plenty of water, and tend your body as if it were a newborn. It is a beautiful day to plant the first seed of an intention, call your mother or a mother figure, or simply rest in the fact of your own existence. Ask yourself: what in my life is ready to be born, and what does it need from me to thrive?

In your oracle

When the Red Dragon appears in your oracle, it brings the reminder to nourish yourself and others, and to return to the source whenever you feel lost. As a guide, it asks you to lead from presence and care.
